FISC Wednesday Beginner/Intermediate Street Skate6:15 PM gear up 6:30 PM departure See the calendar for all events or schedule changes. Summit Sports will be at our Wednesday skates throughout August. They will be bringing a demo van with skates, pads and helmets you can try. On August 26th they will also have maintenance demonstrations.
On Wednesdays from April 1, 2009 to September 30, 2009 we have our beginner/ intermediate level skate. Beginners or "never-evers" can take FREE starting and stopping lessons in the parking lot from certified National Skate Patrol (NSP) members or USSG certified instructors . There are two loops, beginner to intermediate level pace. The first loop is 4-5 miles and is relatively flat. The second loop is about 7 miles and includes some hills. Both loops include a stop for refreshments and start and end in the parking lot. You may do one or both loops or just practice cones and tricks in the lot. Club info, registration & event info available. The skates are run and led by members of the National Skate Patrol (NSP). The NSP members safely lead the skaters thru the streets calling out hazards such as cars or bad pavement. The NSP sweep skates in the back of the pack only as fast as the slowest skater to ensure no one gets left behind. Helmets and all protective gear is encouraged. Fun for all ages, everyone welcome. Please note that we usually won't skate if it's raining or the streets are wet. The Wednesday skate is our largest and most social skate. Afterwards we stop at Page's for food and drinks. The skate starts from a public parking lot on Orchard St (not Orchard Lake Road). Look for the FISC banner. Orchard Street is off Farmington Road, one light south of Grand River. It is behind Fitness 19 in the Farmington Shopping Center. See map below for location.
